Modifying a roadster to track-spec with suspension, safety, and aero upgrades. Read related blog posts here

Overview

This is an ongoing project focused on converting a 1999 Mazda NB Miata into a track monster. It has been heavily modified, and I continue to make heavy changes to the car's layout and chassis. This page, for now, will stand as a list of current upgrades and modifications. Once the build slows down or comes to an end, I'll write a full project post with details.

Objective

The objective with this project is to build a track capable monster, all while deep diving into race car technology, how it works, and why it's important. This car represents my intro to automotive systems.

So far, I've made the following modifications:

    Interior:

  • NRG Steering Wheel Quick Release: For quick removal of the steering wheel, in case of emergencies

  • 3M 2080 Purple Fuchsia Vinyl Wrap: For improved aesthetics

What I'm Learning

  • How suspension component adjustment changes drivability through camber, caster, toe, etc.
  • How aerodynamic components improve vehicle performance
  • How to perform basic and advanced service on a Miata
  • Track day setup and troubleshooting
